Campground owner's summer gets off
to a great start with a multi-million dollar win

(Madison)—With 240 acres of beautiful Wisconsin surroundings, daily canoe trips on the Mecan River, a swimming pool and miniature golf, summer is always a good time at Lake of the Woods Campground, south of Wautoma. But thanks to a $4.0 million Megabucks jackpot, this summer just might be the best ever.

Lake of the Woods owner Victor (Jack) Scimeca claimed that $4.0 million prize this week at Lottery headquarters in Madison. He purchased the winning ticket at (where else?) the campground he and his family own. Lake of the Woods sells Wisconsin Lottery games at the campground lodge.

A regular player, Scimeca bounces from game to game, often choosing the Fast Lucky 5 option that provides a quick pick play of each of the six on-line games. This time, he decided to try a $5 Megabucks ticket because of a limited time offer the Lottery is currently running on the Wisconsin-only jackpot game.

The offer, Mega Play Days, runs through May 21. It works like this--when a player purchases a $5 or greater Megabucks ticket, the player has a chance to win $1,000 instantly. Instant $1,000 winners are entered into a June drawing for $50,000.

“I thought, ‘Why not?’(I’ll have) a chance to win $1,000 instantly and another chance to win $50,000,” Scimeca said.  “And then I ended up winning the jackpot.”

Scimeca has decided to receive his prize as a one-time cash payment of just over $2.3 million, before taxes. He’s still unsure about what he’ll do with money, but thinks that a little traveling and some improvements to the campground might be part of the plan.

“We’re hoping that it will be a good summer,” said Scimeca.

And the Scimeca Family’s good fortune doesn’t end there. For selling the winning $4.0 million Megabucks ticket, Lake of the Woods Campground earns a commission from the Lottery of $80,000. Lottery retailers who sell a winning ticket with a prize of $600 or more earn a commission of 2% of the prize, up to a maximum of $100,000.
